The site is setup as a wordpress blog which effectively puts this blog out to pasture.

- My work at RCC is going great
- killam&co continues to grow
- I recently attended a Google Adwords Seminar
- I will be attending the Salesforce.com User Conference, Dreamforce, in San Francisco in September
- Possibly going to Vegas in September as well
- The summer has begun again in Vancouver. I've been wave jumping in rental boats in English Bay, hitting the beach, biking and doing lots of CrossFit
- I am reading "The World is Flat" by Thomas Friedman and yes, it has taken me a while to get through this book due to the 2-3 hours of study per day I am putting into internet marketing and CRM

but haven't had time to migrate the content from this blog over yet.....so much to do!

Now new posts for a while. I've been a bit sick since the 24 hour relay and also hurt my knee.
On the mend now.

I'm once again revisiting the idea of dropping blogger for typepad or wordpress. Also thinking about hosting the blog on Adamkillam.com rather than using the free blogger service.

For now this site will remain my personal site for general updates and observations with the killam&co blog becoming my next mini project.

This is probably a boring post so I'm going to cut it short - more from me once I am off the antibiotics and in a healthier state.

Quick Update:

- Just held another successful Salesforce.com Vancouver User Group Event at the Opus Hotel
- Prepping to attend the Search Marketing Expo Advanced SEO conference next Monday and Tuesday
- Hiked the Grouse Grind on Saturday Morning for the first time this year. Time: 53 Minutes (personal best: 38 minutes)
- Attended a birthday party this past weekend at tracymylesevents.com and had a blast
- Signging up for several rounds of Salesforce training for when I get back from SMX
- Working on multiple client projects including one to promote a book / author's blog
- Just completed "The Four Hour Work Week" by Timothy Ferris and am now working on completing "The World is Flat"

The World is Flat

Huh? Flat you say? That's right, I am reading "The World is Flat" by Thomas L. Friedman.
I've barely been able to put down this 500+ page text since I bought it several days ago.

This is an important book to read for anyone interested in where the world is heading in regards to the India / China phenomenon and globalization. It also speaks to the empowerment of individuals through new media like blogging as well as the power of collaboration.

If you follow world news you may be aware that our world is rapidly changing. If you're scared of the implications and have ignored what's going on outside your community, your city and country, this book will be a major wake up call. But don't let that ominous sounding sentence scare you. The book provides one with insight into the changes taking place as well as a look into how as a business or individual you can prosper rather than be left behind in the new "flat" world.

On the topic of online reputation management....

Online or off, who you invest time with, who you're close to, and who you associate with has a huge impact on who you become and how others perceive you.

Businesses have been aware of this for eons. Take sponsorships as an example. A smallish company can sponsor a large event and by way of doing so become associated with the size, quality and people involved.

The web works in a similar way. Your online reputation, who and what you're associated with, will play a big role in how others perceive you. If someone finds your personal blog and the writing is focused and of good quality great. You might score a point. But if that same person comes across your name as a volunteer for a charity or organization they support or say in an online article in the Globe and Mail, so much the better.

The take away: give some though to who you want to be known as, the people, businesses and organizations who you respect, and learn how you can associate your name with them. The pay-off will be an enhanced image online and off and the new opportunities that will come as a result.

I'm re-thinking the purpose and content of this blog.
As my day-job, freelance, and other blogs and hobbies are all becoming integrated, I'm thinking this blog should join the fold.

No one really cares about your day to day stuff anyways right? :)
So, there may be a change here soon. Stay tuned.

Ideas thus far: combine this blog with the killam&co online marketing blog
or I may focus on an interest of mine such as Crossfit or online reputation management or Salesforce.com...time will tell.

Manage your online identity

I just posted a new article on the killam&co blog about manging your online identity.
As I become more involved in the online marketing community, social networking sites like linkedin and facebook, and continue to give speeches to local business groups, it's become apparent to me that I need to keep an eye on how I show up online.

This begs the question: have you googled yourself lately? What was once a fad now has a legitimate purpose: how you show up online could affect your success in the job market and other areas of your life.

NICE! We won the hockey game. Right now I am two blocks from GM place filming the madness that is Vancouver after tonight's win. Stay tuned for a video in the next day or two after I edit the footage.

It's so loud here I won't be able to sleep for hours. There is a traffic jam at Robson and Homer and a bunch of guys have gotten out of their car (painted as a Cunucks jersey) and are now on top of it cheering at people and waving flags. Craziness. Air horns. Cheering.

It's great to be in the Van!!!

Weekend Update

This post covers the past week and this weekend:

- Spoke at the Vancouver Club. Presented to 50+ female entrepreneurs attending a meeting for the Association of Women Business Owners. The talk was on Salesforce.com and how to use it to grow your business
- Watched the game on Tuesday night with the men of team Crowbar
- Partied at the Opus on Thursday night. A friend/contact of mine got me in to see a private show. DJ Tall Pall from the U.K was in for the night. The music and people rocked.
- Worked out this weekend with the team at CrossFit Westside
Ended up benching 240 lbs, a personal best. Funny thing was that I thought I was benching 215 and then 220 only to learn later we had mis-counted. Niiice!
- Shot, edited and produced my first digital video today. I am looking into adding video promotion and optimization to my online marketing services list over at killam&co
- Going to re-watch The DaVinci Code tonight with Karen

Post Weekend Update Post

Yeah - fun times. The party was a blast. The 2:1 female to male ratio for about half the night was a unexpected surprize xoxo ((Karen)) ;) !

Boating on Sunday was an absolute trip. We rented a boat at Sewel's in Horshoe Bay and after jumping some ferry waves (ouch) we headed over to Gambier island. We also stopped at a small island owned by the yacht club and watched seals.

Cool times.

Chris and I saw the 'Nucks game last nite at Dix - good food, good, beer and nearly empty! What's up with that? I'll definately be going back soon.

All in all it was a good weekend. I even got a few things done and hung out with Karen lots to boot.

Building a website

I've been working on creating a website for my online marketing freelance business, killam&co.
In between work, freelance, and the volunteer activities I'm involved in it seems to be taking a lot of time. What seems to be working is the idea of "get started, post something, refine later".

Several entrepreneurs I've worked for in the past routinely took action in this manner. Even if it's not pretty, you gain momentum once you get moving. Once the momentum builds you it gets a little easier but you have to keep going. I should have several new pages added to the site by the end of the weekend.

What's up next? Once the site has about 10 or so pages I'll begin working on promoting it and will put my skills to the test. Can I market my own website and attract customers? If not I won't be in business very long!

I need a camera

Vancouver is kicking ass in the weather department today. Although I still have the tail end of a cold Kris and I managed to make it to Kits beach this morning for a quick Crossfit workout.

Pull ups and pushups and some air squats did the trick. Having people over tonight but I'll be pretty low key due to still being on Tylenal Flu meds. Hope to manage a Corona or two though...

Update:

I have been as sick as a dawg this week missing work 3/4 days (hoping to make it in tomorrow)
I did manage to do some work from home and also updated my online marketing blog.

Weather and health permitting we're planning a boating tour of English Bay this Sunday assuming everyone has their sea legs after Saturday night's bash. I'm thinking I am going to take it easy on Sat on account of the recent down time...

The twisted ankle that won't go away is plaguing me.
Nearly finished "The Clue Train Manifesto" see link on the sidebar - I can't believe I never read this until now. Seriously, just go read it already if you haven't and you'll see what I mean.

Although late to the party on this one it's really given me a new perspective on this thing called the web.

Contemplating calling killam&co a search company now rather than an online marketing firm and writing all sorts of ideas down about how I can give the business a "real" voice, a real online presence rather than just the brochure I started out with.

The whole topic of what a website should be and how a company should engage with its customers is something I'm fascinated with for some reason. I think I'll write some more about this in time.

Life? A great book by Brian Tracy.

I started reading "The Clue Train Manifesto" today.
It rocks. What else can I say? I've had time at work to do a lot of research not to mention a few projects I was given today that primarily involve researching certain aspects of online marketing like RSS feeds and the idea of giving away information for free as a way of generating revenue.

Where was I? Oh yeah. Ok so I am reading www.cluetrain.com
and while I'm only on the 1st chapter I have to say this is a must read if you want to get up to speed on the major changes taking place in how we do business, scratch that, how the world is starting to do business due to the changes the net is making possible.

This book was ahead of its time, originally written in '99 I believe. Good stuff.
Give it a read - you won't be disapointed.

Checking out Twitter.com. Twitter is a new Web 2.0 site that allows you to share with the world, in small bite sized chunks what you are up to at any given time of the day using the web or your mobile phone.

Kind of interesting and I'd like to see if it has an affect on my web traffic etc but other than that does it provide any real value other than a distraction? Guess I find out in time. See the new app on the right hand side of this blog to learn more.
